Fischer and Heynold Through to U14 Second Round in France

Benjamin Heynold and Holly Fischer were the only British winners at the Tennis Europe U14 Grade 1 Les Petits As in France earlier today, as Emma Raducanu, Kylie Bilchev and Jack Pinnington Jones all lost the in the first round. Holly Staff and Amarni Banks play their first round matches tomorrow.

It was a difficult day for the usually excellent Raducanu and Bilchev. Raducanu was drawn against Estonian Lissi Kubre and fell to a 6-2 7-5 defeat, while Bilchev lost in three tight sets 6-3 4-6 6-3 to Russian 13th seed Alina Charaeva.

So wildcard Holly Fischer was the only winner, and in relatively comfortable fashion, winning 6-2 6-2 against Pia Lovric of Slovenia, to set up a last-32 match against 16th seed Salma Djoubri of France.

In the Boys’ draw, Pinnington Jones was unable to shake off the rust in his first match of the new year against Frenchman Mehdi Sadaoui, who beat fellow Brit Peter Alam last week in Bolton. Pinnington Jones was downed 7-5 6-4.

Which leaves Benjamin Heynold carrying the flag for the Boys: Heynold came through relatively easily against Portuguese Eduardo Morais, winning 6-2 6-3 to set up a very tough second round encounter with the top seed, Czech Dalibor Svrcina.

As mentioned above, qualifiers Amarni Banks and Holly Staff both play their first round matches tomorrow.
