Holly Staff Through to Face Top Seed in France U14

British youngster Holly Staff joined Holly Fischer and Benjamin Heynold in the second round of the Tennis Europe U14 Grade 1 Les Petits As event in France this week after a 7-5 6-3 victory over French wildcard Diane Parry. Amarni Banks, the other British qualifier, was defeated by Italian Melania Delai 6-3 6-4.

With Fischer and Heynold winning their matches on Monday, it was down to the two qualifying girls to try and make an impact on the draw, and it was one out of two with Staff improving on her recent indifferent form with a win.

Staff may find it tough against the top seed in the next round, though. Daria Snigur of Ukraine defeated fellow Brit Emma Raducanu in Moscow two weeks ago en route to picking up the title there, so she’s number 1 for a reason.

None of the remaining Brits are seeded so won’t be expected to come through the next round, but we’re behind them 100% regardless.
