Zyaan Ahmed Soundly Beaten in Barbados Grade 4 Qualifying

Zyaan Ahmed looked convincing in the his first qualifying match at the ITF Juniors Grade 4 event in St Michael, Barbados, winning 6-1 6-1, but was unable to compete with the third seed in the second round, picking up just one game en route to exiting the competition.

Ahmed, 15, is ranked just inside the top 2000 in the junior rankings, and defeated unranked American Ryan Johnson 6-1 6-1 in fairly convincing fashion in the first round.

But the Brit, whose best result so far this year was reaching the second round of a couple of Grade 4 events in Kenya in January, was unable to cope with the tennis of Javier Flores, the third seed from El Salvador, and went down 6-1 6-0.

The result puts Ahmed’s win-loss record so far this year at 3-5.
