Olivia Elliott Through to Last 16 at Grade 5 in Korea

Sixth seed Olivia Elliott is safely through to the last 16 of the ITF Juniors Grade 5 event in Sunchang-Gun, South Korea this week, but fellow Brits Tzarina Tuen-Matthews and George Loffhagen were both beaten in the first round.

Tuen-Matthews came up against Sora Lee of Korea in the first round and took the first set 6-3, but won just one of the remaining twelve games to slip to a 3-6 6-0 6-1 defeat. She has won just two of her last twelve matches. Meanwhile, George Loffhagen also fell to a defeat, losing 6-4 7-6(5) in a tight clash against another Korean, Minjong Park.

Elliott, however, is seeded sixth, and as such enjoyed a bye through the first round of the event. She then took on Ji Yeon So, also of Korea, in the second round, and won comfortably 6-1 6-4. She’ll now face ninth seed Eunji Oh – again from Korea – for a place in the quarter-finals.

Elliot is 6-3 win-loss so far this year, having reached a Grade 5 semi-final down in South Africa in February. The 14-year-old Brit will be hoping for a similar performance here this week.
