Miller and McHugh Claim Nottingham Grade 4 Titles

In an excellent day for British Tennis in Nottingham, Nell Miller and Aidan McHugh defeated their French opponents in the Girls’ and Boys’ finals of the ITF Juniors Grade 4 event in Nottingham to pick up their third and first Junior titles of the year respectively.

Miller in particular is enjoying a wonderful run of form which has seen her enter three ITF tournaments at Grade 4 level and win all three this year, today’s victory extending her winning streak to 16 matches in total.

And the Brit was barely challenged by French 10th seed Giulia Morlet, winning 6-1 6-1 in very quick time to secure the title. The Brit had the highest Universal Tennis Rating in the field by some margin, and so her victory comes as no surprise.

Aidan McHugh had to fight a little harder to secure his first ITF Junior title of the year, but as we predicted in our very first tournament analysis piece for this week, the 15-year-old won 7-5 6-4 against unseeded Frenchman Marceau Courtalon to secure his first title of the year, having lost to Joe Tyler at a Grade 4 event in Qatar last month.

Qualifying for next week’s tournament has already begun, with several players reprising their seedings and ready to have a second bite at the cherry.

25-year-old University of St Andrews graduate with a rather insane passion for British Tennis. Boston United fan (don't ask). Favourite tennis player: the Brummie bunch - Dan Evans and Lloyd Glasspool.
