Farris Gosea was the player who reached the furthest at this week’s ITFs after a relatively successful run to the quarter-finals of the ITF Futures $10k event in Buffalo, NY. The Brit was the only player left standing as of our previous update, and secured a second round victory before falling to Dane Mikael Torpegaard in the quarters.

Gosea took on American Hunter Callahan in the second round and had an early break in the first set before surrendering it, but eventually recovered to claim the first set 7-4 in the tiebreak. The second set was almost as close, with the Brit showing his resilience with a late break to clinch the match 7-6(4) 7-5 and double his points haul for the week.
However, Danish world #919 Torpegaard proved to be too good for the Brit, who is returning to the ITF tour after a lengthy absence to complete his studies at college in the States. Gosea went down 6-2 6-4 against the Dane, who proceeded to lose handsomely in the semi-final to the top seed.
Gosea’s return to the tour has been semi-successful so far: his highlight came back in mid-May, where he came through qualifying to reach the final of the $10k in Mexico City, a points haul which returned him to direct acceptance level in $10k main draws. Since then, though, he has gone 3-3 win-loss and picked up three ranking points, allowing him to inch back up the rankings to #895 – although he’s still some way off his career high of #557, achieved back in July last year.
